Since 2004, September has been recognized as National Preparedness Month by Americans. Full support comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency better known as FEMA. The overall focus is to provide information that will help Americans to deal with and prepare themselves, businesses and homes for natural and man-made disasters. September was selected as the month for National Preparedness as a reminder of the tragic events of 9/11 and the need for preparedness.
Citizen Corps National Survey reports that only fifty-seven percent of US citizens polled report owning the necessary emergency supplies in their residences specifically for disasters, and forty-four percent have a home disaster plan.
